Junkprints

Owner/Desinger Chanel Kennebrew
JunkPrints Trackjacket
Ahhh Junkprints. Where shall we start? Junkprints is the newest, hippest line company creeping up the charts. It's a company because not only can you get clothing but you can also get art and probably anything else this little lady can design. The creator and mastermind behind Junkprints is Chanel Kennebrew. She has been seen on Etsy, featured in Honey Magazine, People Stylewatch Magazine, and most recently among others The Infamous New York Times. Not only is Chanel talented, extremely creative but also a very bright intellectual. Some would consider beauty, brains and creativity cannot exist in one person. WRONG. We found it in Kennebrew. We hope you enjoy Junkprints as much as we do! It's more than clothing, it's more than wallets, and illustrations. It's funky and flly. If you find you love Matilda and can't get enough of her, you can send her to friends, family and loved ones. Literally. You can get Matilda postage stamps from Zazzle. Enjoy :b

FG. Who is Matilda and where did she come from?

JP.  Matilda was a narcissistic creation or me. I think that we are all narcissistic. We could have never agreed to terms of normality without some narcissism. Narcissism is what we use to gauge our aesthetics, social groups, and general behavior. It’s the reason why folks of color are constantly feel like they are under represented/ mis-represented in the media. Folks want something/one to identify with, not tokenism or sidekicks. Things are changing and that’s good, and I'm not one to sit and complain about feeling excluded. So I went on a mission to introduce a varied perspective on beauty, cuteness and valued aesthetics and Matilda was hatched. She’s prob not gonna save the world or patch up the economy but she’s cute, smart, silly, is made in my own image, and I relate to her. Hope you do too.

FG. What do you hope to accomplish with Junkprints?

Matilda April Showers Handbag
JP.  I want to encourage folks to empathize with each other as if it's the normal behavior, ask questions and gently reshape the world they live in. That's what I'm trying to do and hope to inspire others to so the same.

FG. How would you describe the fashion of your line?

JP. It's smarter than fashion, less pretentious than art, looser than design and good for the soul. Junkprints started out as one gals surface exploration of race and gender in the media. Junkprints is a response to mainstream media's exclusion and skewed representation of the rest of the American people. Junkprints was created as a lifestyle choice put into place to attempt to balance out the playing field.

FG. How was Junkprints born and what was the concept of creating the line.

JP.  Junkprints as a company is actually 8 years old but before the clothing line launched in 2007, Junkprints' primary focus was photography and graphic design. I've found that the clothing aspect has allowed me to communicate directly with the audience and essentially bring the art to the people. The clothing line kinda
started as an accident. Just for fun, I started making myself clothing so that I could wear things I like and believe in. I love men's clothing, it's so practical and usually the messaging isn't making a fool out of the person wearing it. Unlike women's clothing that usually has too few pockets, isn't quite warm or comfortable, and has dumb graphics such as 'sexy.' I wanted to make stuff that I want to wear and absorb. I believe in art for the people and removing the elitism attached to the commercial art world. The majority of the people are not in galleries so that’s not where my art should be. The clothing line was an ideal medium for creating art that the day to day person can absorb.

FG. Where does your inspiration come from to create and design such creative pieces?

JP.  I'm first content inspired and then medium driven, meaning the story or topic comes first and the the execution. I'm inspired by the past and the present. I'm a savager and duplicator who is super fascinated
with propaganda and how we as people relate to our social environments. The thin division lines between social separation are what push me to cover the topics I address in my work.

Garnier Blow Dry Perfector

Garnier has a new system that promises to keep your hair sleek and smooth for up to 7 washes. No frizzes. Yea!  Blow Dry Perfector comes with two steps to keep the process simple. The first step is the Smooth-it-serum. You comb this product into hair after you shampoo and towel dry. Leave in for 20 minutes......while the product is sitting it is actually working to smooth and tame your hair. The second step is the Perfect-It Cream. This cream contains natural rice oil to seal in moisture and to resist frizz. This product CAN NOT be used on relaxed or damaged hair by chemical processing, but is suitable for color treated hair. In this product you can also find Cysteine which is a protein building block found naturally in hair to loosen the bonds that keep hair frizzy and untameable. This product won't break the bank starting at 9.99 online at Ulta . Visit Garnier's site for a $2 off coupon. Now you can try it and buy it for under $10.00. Another budget saver tip! Don't be stingy and share this tip with your friends. They will thank you for it :b

Back to Business

Crazy Louis! Aviator
Hey guys thanks for still supporting me and bearing with me during my technical troubles. Internet was down and therefore I couldn't blog. I missed you guys too! Today is a quickie and more of a style alert. First up I have found the most amazing sunglasses. They are from Girlprops and are called Crazy Louis! Aviator Shield Sunglasses. Louis Vuitton gone crazy! Lol. These are a little different but can easily be styled to wear more than on a special occasion or going out. I would definitely pair these with khakis or any color denim. A solid color top would be more suitable than a print unless you think you can pull it off. I would go with a white or cream tee and denim jeans and I would be superflly! They come in a variety of colors so take your pick.
Iron Fist Twinkle Toes
My item pick is from Iron Fist. They have a pretty rad line of shoes. This feature style can be found at Hot Topic or Torrid. These platform pumps come in a red, fuchsia and turquoise striped sequin design. You will definitely stand out, but that's a good thing right? You could pair this with black jeans(any style) and a white top with a coordinating color of jacket if necessary. A high waisted skirt or your LBD (little black dress) would look great with these pumps. These shoes have a lot of color so I would recommend letting their beauty stand out and opting for solid colors with this one.

L'Oreal Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara

Naked lashes
Lashes with primer
Hey ladies I just did a review of L'Oreal Double Extend. This product has been on the market for a while and is highly overlooked. I use it everyday and have not heard that much of a buzz about it so I decided to do a review and let you all know about it and for you to see for yourself. For all of you that have not tried this product yet it is a must! Double Extend Lash Boosting Mascara has two steps.

Lashes with complete system
*The first step contains pro-keratin complex that fortifies lashes, maximizes their appearance and serves as a lash builder for longer, fuller lashes.
*The second step is the topcoat. This coat lengthens lashes again and provides the color of your choicein mascara.

This product is also recommended for use with L'Oreal Double Extend Lash Boosting Serum.
